Notes

  • Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) The central committee of experts that recommends ToR and EC for river valley and hydro projects, including PSPs. More in glossary → recommended Terms of Reference (ToR) The list of studies an EIA must cover, set by the expert committee. Getting a ToR is the first clearance step, not a permission to build. More in glossary → at its 59th meeting (30 Jul 2026, item 59.5, proposal IA/MH/RIV/585718/2026; reported 18 Aug 2026) for 1,400 MW on 294 ha, of which 206 ha is forest (70%).
  • Listed on the agenda as a Closed loop A PSP whose two reservoirs are built away from rivers; water is filled once and then recirculated. More in glossary → but appraised as Open loop A PSP with at least one reservoir on a river or stream, so it changes natural water flow. More in glossary → ; the EAC asked for e-flows and a cumulative assessment of the Nigade river basin, and a Forest clearance (Stage-I / Stage-II) Central permission to use forest land for a project. Stage-I is in-principle approval with conditions; Stage-II is final approval. More in glossary → application.
  • Not the same project as JSW's Pane Pumped storage project (PSP) Two reservoirs at different heights: water is pumped up when power is cheap and released through turbines when power is needed. More in glossary → .
  • Storage MW, MWh and GWh MW is how fast power flows; MWh (or GWh = 1,000 MWh) is how much energy is stored or delivered. More in glossary → not yet found.
  • EAC 59th minutes (item 59.5): 294 ha = 206 ha forest + 88 ha non-forest; Karnala Wildlife sanctuary (WLS) and tiger reserve Protected areas under the Wild Life (Protection) Act. A tiger reserve has an inviolate core and a surrounding buffer. More in glossary → is the nearest protected area, project outside its Eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) A notified buffer around a sanctuary or national park where some activities are banned or regulated.
